Since tarnishing is caused by oxidation of the metal when the silver comes in contact with the air, keep your jewelry in its anti-tarnish bag or in a fairly airtight container like a velvet-lined jewelry box. Matte finished or “brushed” silver jewelry has unique properties. You can clean it as you would normal sterling silver, but to restore the brushed finish and/or remove light tarnish, you can lightly scrub the surface with an UNTREATED scotch-brite pad, moving in the same direction as the matte finish. If the tarnish is more severe, use the same process, first lightly dipping the piece in silver dip, remembering to avoid stones such as turquoise and garnet to protect their luster.
