This sterling silver necklace is wonderful for its combination - blending the simplicity and silhouette of the single apple with a rich red gemstone. Inspired by the fantastical wonderland of Snow White, the knowledge of Newton and the antics of New York, the “Forbidden” collection is my ode to the apple. It’s iconic symbolism reminding us of heart-warming apple pie during patriotic holidays while its temptation always conjures up thoughts of a forbidden love. The Renaissance painted Venus with the apple while modern day “Twilight” readers use it as a symbol of a tempestuous affair. For me, my lure lies with the sites and sounds of the “Big Apple” itself. In the city that never sleeps, with youth flocking to its bright lights, I find more inspiration here than anywhere else. In this modern city, constantly being motivated by its energy, the apple has become an icon that represents us all. For all these reasons, the “Forbidden” collection’s first set of styles had to be apple jewelry. For me, it will remind me of my muse, New York, the teachers who convinced me to follow my passions, and the crisp New England days of Fall spent with my husband. ...Since tarnishing is caused by oxidation of the metal when the silver comes in contact with the air, keep your jewelry in its anti-tarnish bag, or in a fairly airtight container like a velvet-lined jewelry box. Also, your natural body oils will help keep the jewelry clean so remember to wear it!! Don’t leave it out on a nightstand to tarnish. If the jewelry does begin to tarnish, lightly scrub the surface with a thick paste of baking soda and water using a soft bristled toothbrush. If the tarnish is more severe, try a silver cleaner like Wright's Silver Polish or a silver dip remembering to avoid stones such as turquoise and garnet to protect their luster.
